INFORMATION
Venue and Times
Since 2021, the Dons have played at the County Arts Club on Plumstead Road in Thorpe St. Andrew - a fantastic, spacious venue with a casual bar area in addition to the function room where the chess is played. The club's full address and phone number is:
The County Arts Club,
8 Plumstead Road East,
Norwich,
NR7 3ND
(Phone: 01603 434529)
Our club night is a Tuesday from 7:30pm, but usually people show up 10-15 minutes early to help with setting out the boards and tables.
Parking is available on either side of the bowling green, so if you're driving then there are entrances both from Plumstead Road East and St. Williams Way.
Membership
We'd love to have you become part of the Dons family!
Prospective members are more than welcome to pop down on a Tuesday evening and try out the club to see if it's a good fit for them. As there can be matches going on each week, your best course of action is probably to contact us beforehand via the form on our Contact Page so we can guarantee someone will be around to give you a few games.
If you'd like to join the club, there's a yearly membership fee split into parts:
-
County Arts Social Membership: as the County Arts is strictly a members' club, in order to join the Dons you'll need to be a social member of the County Arts - this is currently £35 per year plus an initial £5 joining fee for the first year. Membership of the County Arts also allows you usage of the facilities whenever it's open!
-
Norwich Dons Membership: the fee to join the Dons is £10 per year for new members, or £20 per year for existing members.
In addition, if you'd like to play competitive chess as part of one of our league or cup teams, you must be registered as a member of the English Chess Federation (ECF).
